Dear friends and colleagues,

Happy New Year! And what a year 2020 will be. I am proud to be kicking off Genome Canada’s 20th anniversary year and look forward to celebrating with you at events and activities in the months to come. We also wish a big happy 20th anniversary to the Genome Centres (and a happy 15th to you, Genome Alberta!) — we couldn’t ask for better partners in our efforts.

This is an exceptionally exciting time for genomics. I believe we are in the early stages of a revolution in biosciences that will fundamentally transform our world. Enormous improvements in data production and analysis, combined with transformative developments in gene editing and synthetic biology are creating enormous opportunities to address our biggest challenges in human health, food and agriculture, and the environment.

I am inspired by these opportunities and believe that genomics, responsibly applied, will change the world for the better. Genome Canada is well positioned to help lead Canada’s biosciences revolution. I’m fortunate to be surrounded here by smart, dedicated people who believe deeply in what we’re doing. I’m also excited to work with a committed Board of Directors, innovative Genome Centres and an exceptional community of Canadian researchers as we launch into the next 20 years of Genome Canada’s journey.

Thanks to all of you who have contributed so much to the first 20 years of Genome Canada’s success. There is much to be proud of. And there remains much to be done.

Regards,
Rob Annan
